The Mainzer Adelsverein:
The Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas, the Mainzer Adelsverein, was a group created by minor German nobleman interested in the welfare of the rural German class as well as, maybe, finding a source of raw materials. There is the possibility that they wished to develop influences in another country, in case of war, and hope of personal profit. At first led by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, the prince opened the port of Indianola to German immigrants moving to the settlement of New Braunfel. Prince Carl was later replaced by Baron Otfried Hans Von Meusebach, who resolved Prince Carl's legal issues and bought the land the town of Fredericksburg was founded on. The groups efforts failed horribly, but they still managed to bring into Texas 7000 German immigrants.
